Optimization tip: remove Font Awesome library and use only SVG’s that you need

Font Awesome is pretty awesome, but it’s also pretty heavy. We could call it Font Heavy, but then it might not be quite as popular. The problem with loading a lot of stuff you don’t need should always be obvious. This is probably one of the simplest ways to approach optimization, is just ask yourself how much of what you use do you actually need? With Font Awesome thankfully they have a way of giving us their great fonts without loading the entire library. We can load only the icons we need by downloading their SVG’s.

I highly recommend doing this despite the work involved because it can make a real difference in speed. You’re eliminating a large JS library, and replacing it with lightning fast loading SVG’s. Win/win.
